Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute (Hampton Proton) is seeking a Staff Accountant to assist with the financial transactions and accounting operations.

Hampton Proton is the nation’s 8th proton therapy facility and one of the largest free-standing proton clinics in the world. The state-of-the-art treatment and research center has four gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. Hampton Proton has been treating a variety of cancers since August 2010.

Hampton Proton uses IBA’s Proteus 235 proton therapy delivery system, MOSAIQ Oncology Information System(Elektra), Eclipse Proton Treatment Planning system (Varian) and a Philips 4D-PET/CT for simulations, and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR Ingenia 3T) by Philips. Our Proteus 235 system is equipped with IBA’s universal nozzles. We are using Uniform Scanning, Double Scattering, and Pencil Beam Scanning treatment delivery techniques in our treatment rooms.

Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is an entry level position that reports directly to the Director of Finance while working alongside other professionals and support staff. The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for accounts payable, purchasing transactions, requisitions, financial recordings, and information by reconciling, verifying, consolidating, and entering
transactions. Will assist with managing the integrity of the accounting systems and maintaining fiscal records of assets for Hampton Proton.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Processes general ledger entries and reconciliations for month end closing in accordance with the monthly accounting calendar in timely manner.
  • Verifies all vendors, invoices, and checks comply with established Hampton Proton financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and process batches of invoices into Sage Intacct for payment.
  • Matches purchase orders with approved requisitions that are processed via Sage Intacct software.
  • Processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, and posts journal entries.
  • Assists with fixed assets management and budget to actual variance report.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow within the department by performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration.

Qualifications:

  • Must have an understanding of accounting theory.
  • Ability to research and reconcile accounts.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have Microsoft Excel experience.
  • Attention to detail, high-quality results oriented, and adheres to timelines.
  • Must be proactive, independent, adaptable, and enthusiastic.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in accounting or related discipline required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of financial/accounting related work experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred but not required.
