Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute (Hampton Proton) is seeking a mid-level Facility Maintenance Technician to maintain all applicable systems and processes related to Hampton Proton’s facility, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.

Hampton Proton is the nation’s 8th proton therapy facility and one of the largest free-standing proton clinics in the world. The state-of-the-art treatment and research center has four gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. Hampton Proton has been treating a variety of cancers since August 2010.

Facility Maintenance Technician

The Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) reports directly to the Facility Maintenance Manager and indirectly to the Director of Finance and Administration while working alongside other professionals and support staff. The FMT assists with maintaining the structural, building, and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles a variety of maintenance and repair needs relating to the facility, but not limited to lighting, carpeting, electrical, boilers, plumbing, and grounds maintenance.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and experience with facility maintenance, operations and building systems for upkeep and repair with strong focus on preventive maintenance.
  • Monitors applicable internal systems and promptly addresses issues. Seeks opportunities to continually improve processes, workflow and best utilization of resources.
  • Maintains OSHA Compliance and a safe working environment related to the grounds and facility.
  • Annotates and updates work logs as well as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDA).
  • Ensures that the applicable facility maintenance agreements are in place and appropriately followed for effective facility compliance.
  • Assists in obtaining quotes and arranging working schedules with outside vendors as needed.
  • Monitors vendor onsite services from sub/contractors for high quality, effectiveness, and cost.
  • Assists with procurement practices for facility and grounds, service contract management and delivery of goods and services.
  • Assist with establishing effective project schedules, setting timeframes, determining priorities, as well as coordinating and adjusting workloads.
  • Works well with all departments, internal and external customers, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction to ensure facility and workflow optimization.
  • Assist Environmental Services with cleaning responsibilities in various areas of the facility as needed.
  • Assist with the efficient operation of workflow within the department by performing other duties as assigned by the Facility Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and assignments under time constraints and changing priorities.
  • Effective use of a variety of hand and power tools and able to read and work with floor plans.
  • Experience with proton facility or an electron beam accelerator support systems equipment is highly preferred.
  • Must demonstrate a basis understanding of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, with experience in high-tech facility management. Heavy lifting may be required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical supply needs of the facility and may assist in ordering and receiving supplies through a computerized materials system 0061s needed.
  • Obtained OSHA 10, 20, or 40 training is highly preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Must demonstrate great interpersonal skills.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Applicable college and/or technical training is a plus.
  • Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC), IFMA Certified Facility Manager (ICFM) or IFMA Certified Facility Management Professional (FMP) is highly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must possess a valid, current Driver’s License and be able to transport items as needed.
  • Available between the hours of 7:00am – 8:00pm and on weekends for urgent situations as needed.
