Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute (Hampton Proton) is seeking a Medical Dosimetrist to safely perform medical dosimetry tasking in a proton radiotherapy clinic.
Hampton Proton is the nation’s 8th proton therapy facility and the largest free-standing proton clinic in the world. The state-of-the- art treatment and research center has four gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. Hampton Proton has been treating prostate, brain, lung, pediatric, head and neck, breast, CNS and other cancers since August 2010. Hampton Proton uses IBA’s Proteus 235 proton therapy delivery system, VeriSuite for IGRT, MOSAIQ Oncology Information System (Elektra), Eclipse Proton Treatment
Planning system (Varian) and a 4D-PET/CT for simulations (Philips), and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR Ingenia 3T) by Philips.
Our Proteus 235 system is equipped with IBA’s universal nozzles. We are using Uniform Scanning, Double Scattering, and Pencil Beam Scanning treatment delivery techniques in our treatment rooms.
Medical Dosimetrist
The Medical Dosimetrist reports to the Chief Medical Physicist while working alongside other professionals and support staff. The Medical Dosimetrist performs a very critical role in the safety and quality of medical services each patient receives from Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute (Hampton Proton).
Responsibilities:
- Design customized treatment plans through the Eclipse | Varian application to deliver proton radiation within a specified treatment field that will deliver the prescribed radiation dose.
- Document pertinent information in the patient record to ensure proper documentation is maintained in the MOSAIQ software application.
- Develop, establish, implement, and maintain adequate protocols for accurate patient dosimetry.
- Assist in simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging devices including, but not limited to PET, CT, and MRI. Also assist in the production of bolus, field arrangement, molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
- Plan and implement the fabrication of compensators, custom blocks, and other beam modifying devices.
- Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets. Assumes proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
- Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery to include DRRs and other IGRT methods, as specified.
- Provide assistance and technical support to the medical physicists in radiation safety/protection and quality assurance of treatment plans.
- Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students.
- Support and be involved in the dosimetric research and development projects ongoing in the institution.
- Use independent judgment and apply learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
- Uphold, maintain, and establish adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry.
- Assure the efficient operation of workflow within the department by performing other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Physicist
Qualifications:
- Eclipse | Varian Treatment Planning System and MOSAIQ Oncology Information System experience highly preferred, but not required.
- Must have intermediate to expert computer skills including Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional clinical skills and the ability to research and resolve matters
Requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited dosimetry educational program.
- MDCB board certification required.
- At least 1 year or more experience highly preferred, but not required.
- Experience in proton radiotherapy is a plus.
- COVID-19 vaccination and booster or an approved medical/religious exemption required
